Solvothermal Synthesis Routes to Substituted Cerium Dioxide Materials

نویسندگان

چکیده

We review the solution-based synthesis routes to cerium oxide materials where one or more elements are included in place of a proportion cerium, i.e., substitution is performed. The focus on solvothermal method, reagents heated above boiling point solvent induce crystallisation directly from solution. This yields unusual compositions with crystal morphology often nanoscale. Chemical all parts periodic table considered, transition metals main group and rare earths, including isovalent aliovalent cations, surveyed using literature published past ten years. illustrate versatility this method allow formation functional applications contemporary such as heterogeneous catalysis, electrodes for solid fuel cells, photocatalysis, luminescence biomedicine. pick out emerging trends towards control habit by use non-aqueous solvents solution additives identify challenges still remaining, detailed structural characterisation, understanding mechanisms scale-up synthesis.

Effect of Synthesis Routes on Microstructure of Nanocrystalline Cerium Oxide Powder

The effect of different processing routes on the microstructure of nanocrystalline ceria powder has been investigated. The nanocrystalline ceria is produced by solid state high energy ball milling (HEBM) and liquid state solution combustion synthesis (SCS) method. The liquid state route consists of a high temperature combustion reaction to form ceria from an aqueous solution of cerium ammonium ...

Molecular Routes to Materials in New York

A symposium entitled “Molecular Routes to Materials” was held in New York City at the 4th Chemical Congress of the North American Continent in August, 1991. The talks focused on synthetic and mechanistic studies of the formation of metals, borides, nitrides, carbides, oxides, and compound semiconductors from molecular precursors. Dr. Joel Miller (DuPont) outlined recent success in obtaining mag...

Methane-assisted combustion synthesis of nanocomposite tin dioxide materials

Combustion synthesis of tin dioxide (SnO2) was studied using a new synthesis approach where the combustion environment was augmented to control the temperature and flow conditions using methane as a supplemental fuel. The experiments were carried out at atmospheric pressure using a multi-element diffusion flame burner with a gas-phase precursor for SnO2 and solid-phase precursor for metal addit...

Template-free synthesis of uniform single-crystal hollow cerium dioxide nanocubes and their catalytic activity.

Monodisperse single-crystal hollow cerium dioxide nanocubes with exposed (001) facets have been synthesized with the assistance of ammonium chloride (NH4Cl) and polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) in a water and ethanol system. A series of experiments indicate that ammonium ion plays an important role in the formation of the hollow structure and PVP plays a key role in the formation of a cubic shape. Th...

Regioselective routes to orthogonally-substituted aromatic MIDA boronates.

A series of tetrasubstituted aromatics has been synthesized, many of which are based on elaborated N-methyliminodiacetic acid (MIDA)-boronates. A sequence employing nitration, bromination, stepwise Suzuki-Miyaura (SM) coupling with a boronic acid, then base-mediated unmasking of the boronic acid from the MIDA-boronate and a second SM-coupling has led to our desired, mainly 1,2,4,5-substituted t...
